What is Tindelog?
A logbook for mountain summits. Log your trips, and Tindelog finds the peaks, cabins and other places on your route. Follow peak lists, see your progress and where your friends have been.
How do I log a trip or a summit?
- Upload a track: GPX, TCX or FIT files from your watch or phone, one at a time or several at once.
- Import from Strava: connect Strava under Settings → Connected apps.
- Log a summit without a track: open the peak and log an ascent with a date.
- Import a spreadsheet: a CSV or Excel file with your old ascents.
A place counts as visited when your track comes within 30 metres of it.
What is prominence?
Prominence is how far a peak stands on its own: the height from the summit down to the lowest point you must pass to reach higher ground. A small top on a ridge has little prominence; a peak that rises alone has a lot.
Prominence comes from OpenStreetMap and community edits. For Norwegian peaks without a value, Tindelog calculates it from Kartverket's terrain model; those values are marked DTM on the peak page. More about prominence on Wikipedia.
What are peak lists?
Lists are collections of places to climb — the peaks of a region, the highest in a country, or your own goals. Follow a list to see your progress and how you compare with others on its leaderboard. You can make your own lists and choose who can see them.
A peak is missing or has wrong information
Open the place, choose ⋯ → Report a problem and pick Wrong information or Duplicate, or tell us about a missing place under Settings → Support. A person on our team checks it.
How do I sign in?
Enter your email and we send you a sign-in link and a code. Both work for 15 minutes. You can also add a passkey (fingerprint, face or screen lock) or a password under Settings → Sign-in and security. The email code always works as a way back in.
Who can see my profile and trips?
You choose under Settings → Privacy:
- Public — everyone, also people who are not signed in, and search engines
- Users — signed-in users
- Friends
Each trip can be hidden further (for example Only me) in the trip's edit dialog. A trip is never more visible than your profile. Trips imported from Strava are never more visible than they are on Strava.
Do my photos show where they were taken?
Only if you share them. With Hide location and camera details on, the photo files other people see contain no metadata (no GPS position, camera details or time), and your original file is kept in private storage that only Tindelog's servers can read. With it off, people who can see the photo can see where and when it was taken, and the photo files keep the camera's metadata.
We read the position and time from the original to place the photo on the map. Hide location and camera details (on by default, under Settings → Privacy and on each photo) keeps the position, time and camera details to you.
How do friends and blocking work?
Send a friend request from someone's profile. Friends see what you share with friends, and your trips appear in each other's feed under Friends.
To block someone, use ⋯ on their profile. You are no longer friends, they can't see your profile, trips or photos while signed in, and their friend requests never reach you. They are not told. What you share publicly stays public. Unblock under Friends → Blocked people.
How do I get a copy of my data?
Go to Settings → Your data and choose Download my data. You get a ZIP file at once: your records as JSON, your tracks as GPX and your photos as you uploaded them. Tracks of trips imported from Strava are not included; download those from Strava. For your security you may be asked to sign in again first. In the Android app, version 0.2 or later saves it to your phone's Downloads folder; in older versions, use your phone's browser.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Settings → Your data and choose Delete account. The dialog shows exactly what will be deleted and what stays. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone. It also stops any subscription and Strava's access. See what we keep.
What happens when I connect Strava?
Tindelog reads your activities and their tracks (not your photos). You choose which kinds of activities to import, then start the import. After that, new activities arrive by themselves while Auto-sync new activities is on (it is by default).
Tindelog writes nothing back to Strava unless you turn on write-back. With write-back on, it adds the summits you reached to the activity's title and description on Strava.
What happens when I disconnect Strava?
Under Settings → Connected apps, choose Disconnect. Tindelog removes its access on Strava and deletes the access keys. You choose what happens to the trips you imported: keep them (the default), delete the trips that only came from Strava, or delete every linked trip.
If you remove Tindelog on Strava's side instead, Tindelog deletes the trips that only came from Strava.
My Strava activities don't appear
Check Settings → Connected apps: the connection should be active and the activity type selected. Use Sync now to fetch activities again. If Strava no longer accepts Tindelog's access, connect again from the same page — your imported trips are kept.
How do I report something?
Choose ⋯ → Report a problem on a place, list or trip (Report user on a profile), or Report a problem in the photo viewer. Pick a reason and tell us what is wrong. You get a reference number and an email receipt, and you can follow the report under Settings → Support.
Not signed in? Sign in, or email [email protected] with a link to the page.
How do I report illegal content?
Choose Illegal content as the reason, explain why you think it is illegal and confirm that your report is made in good faith. This is a notice under the EU Digital Services Act. See Reporting and moderation in the terms.
What happens after I report?
A person on our team looks at it, usually within three days. We do not tell the person you reported who you are. We tell you whether we acted. If you disagree, reply in the request within six months and we look at it again.
My content was removed or my account suspended
When we act on your content or account because of a report, we email you a statement of reasons that says what we decided and why. If you disagree, open a request under Settings → Support, or email [email protected] if your account is suspended, within six months and with the reference number. A person reviews the decision again.
Is there an app?
Yes, for Android. It shows the same Tindelog as the website, with the same account. From app version 0.2, downloads (your data, GPX files) are saved to your phone's Downloads folder; in older versions, use your phone's browser for those. Premium can't be bought in the app. There is no iPhone app; tindelog.com works in Safari.
How do I contact you?
Signed in: open a request under Settings → Support. Otherwise email [email protected]. A person answers, in Norwegian or English.
