Terms of Service

The rules for using Tindelog: your account, what you may post, how reports and moderation work, and our responsibilities.

Last updated October 12, 2026 · What changed

In short

  • Tindelog is run by Terris AS in Norway. These terms and our privacy policy apply when you use it.

  • Your trips, tracks, photos and lists stay yours. You let us store and show them, only to the people your privacy settings allow.

  • Don't post anything illegal, anything that harms other people, or other people's location or personal details without their consent.

  • Anyone can report content. A person, not an algorithm, decides. If we act on your content after a report, we tell you why and how to ask for a new review.

  • Paid plans are not open yet. Nobody is charged today.

1. About these terms

These terms apply when you use Tindelog (tindelog.com and the Tindelog app for Android). Tindelog is run by Terris AS, a company registered in Norway ("we", "us").

By creating an account or using Tindelog, you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. If you do not agree, do not use Tindelog. Your rights as a consumer under Norwegian law always apply, whatever these terms say.

2. Who can use Tindelog

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. If you use Tindelog on behalf of an organisation, you confirm that you may agree to these terms for it.

3. Your account

When you create an account, you agree to:

  • give accurate information and keep it up to date
  • keep your sign-in methods (email, passkeys, password) to yourself
  • take responsibility for what happens on your account
  • tell us at [email protected] straight away if you think someone else has used it

You can sign out other devices under Settings → Sign-in and security.

4. What you may not do

When you use Tindelog, you must not:

  • break the law, or post content that is illegal
  • post content that infringes someone else's copyright, privacy or other rights
  • publish precise locations or personal details of other people without their consent
  • harass, threaten or abuse other people
  • pretend to be someone else, or misrepresent who you are connected with
  • scrape or copy the service or its data in bulk, or try to reverse-engineer it, except where the law allows
  • try to get into accounts or systems you have no access to, or disrupt the service
  • upload malware, or put an unreasonable load on the service with automated tools

If you break these rules, we may remove or restrict your content or suspend your account (see Reporting and moderation and Suspension and ending your account).

5. Your content

What you create on Tindelog stays yours: trips, tracks, photos, journals, lists and descriptions ("your content").

So that we can run Tindelog, you give Terris AS a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, process, copy and show your content — only to run and improve the service, and only to the people your privacy settings allow. Processing includes, for example, removing metadata from photos, finding the summits on a track and working out statistics. The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies in backups until they expire (see the privacy policy) and copies we must keep by law.

Places you add to the shared map and edits you make to place descriptions are shared map data. They stay on the map, without your name, if you delete your account.

You are responsible for your content, and you confirm that you have the right to post it and to give us this licence.

6. Reporting and moderation

Reporting content. Anyone can tell us about a place, list, trip, profile or photo that is wrong, breaks these terms or is illegal. Use Report a problem in the ⋯ menu (on a profile: Report user), or in the photo viewer. If you are not signed in, you can sign in or email [email protected] with a link to the page.

Illegal content. Choose Illegal content as the reason. Explain why you think it is illegal (at least 30 characters), point to exactly where it is, and confirm that your report is accurate and made in good faith. This is a notice under the EU Digital Services Act (DSA), Article 16.

What happens next. We email you a receipt with a reference number. A person on our team looks at every report, usually within three days. We do not use automated tools to find or decide on content. The person you report is not told who reported them. If you report the same thing again while your first report is open, it is added to that report.

Checks before publishing. Places that users suggest, and photos added to a place's page, wait for a moderator's approval before others can see them. Edits to place descriptions go live at once and are checked afterwards.

What we can do. Depending on what we find, we can remove the content, make it visible only to its owner, reject a place, or suspend the account, for a period or until further notice. We can also decide to do nothing.

What we tell you. If you reported something, we tell you whether we acted (not what we did to whom). If we act on your content or account because of a report, we email you a statement of reasons (DSA Article 17): what we decided and why, that the decision is based on these terms, that a person made it, and how to ask for a review.

Asking for a review. If you disagree with a decision, tell us within six months of it. If you reported the content, reply in your request under Settings → Support. If it is your content, open a new request there, or email [email protected] if your account is suspended, and give the reference number. A person looks at it again. You can also use an out-of-court dispute settlement body or go to the courts.

7. Premium and payments

Tindelog Premium adds peak weather forecasts, weather on your trips, snow depth, driving time and two extra map styles. During the beta, every account gets Premium at no charge. Downgrading never deletes your trips, summits or lists.

Paid plans are not open yet. You cannot buy a subscription today, and we do not charge anyone. Before paid plans open, we will add the terms for payment, renewal, cancelling and your right of withdrawal to this page and tell you. The Android app does not sell subscriptions.

Your rights as a consumer under Norwegian law, including the Cancellation Act (angrerettloven), are not affected by anything in these terms.

8. Strava and other services

You can connect your Strava account to import trips. Your use of Strava is covered by Strava's own terms and privacy policy. You can disconnect under Settings → Connected apps at any time and choose whether to keep or delete the trips you imported. We are not responsible for whether Strava is available or accurate.

The maps show map data and imagery from other providers, credited on the map under the ⓘ button.

9. Suspension and ending your account

You can stop using Tindelog at any time and delete your account under Settings → Your data. What is deleted and what is kept is described in the privacy policy.

We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, if the law requires it, or if we shut down the service. When we suspend an account because of a report, we email you why and how to ask for a review (see Reporting and moderation). If you try to sign in to a suspended account, we tell you until when it is suspended. Where it is reasonable and lawful, we warn you first.

10. Safety and accuracy

Tindelog is provided "as is" and "as available", as far as the law allows. We do not promise that it will always work, be free of errors or be secure.

Heights, prominence, tracks, routes, weather, snow depth and other data can be wrong or incomplete. Tindelog is a logbook, not a navigation tool. It does not replace a map and compass, training, the weather forecast or your own judgement. Mountain trips carry real risk, and you are responsible for your own safety and decisions.

11. Our liability

As far as the law allows, Terris AS is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of data, profit or goodwill, that comes from using or not being able to use Tindelog.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability where that would be against the law — for example for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for your mandatory rights as a consumer under Norwegian law.

12. Changes to these terms

We may change these terms. We show every change, with its date, under What changed at the bottom of this page. If a change is significant, we also tell you directly, for example by email.

If you keep using Tindelog after a change applies, the new terms apply to you. If you do not agree, you can stop using Tindelog and delete your account.

13. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by Norwegian law. Disputes go to the Norwegian courts, with Oslo District Court (Oslo tingrett) as the agreed venue, unless the law gives you as a consumer the right to bring a case elsewhere.

If you are a consumer and we cannot settle a complaint between us, you can contact the Norwegian Consumer Council (Forbrukerrådet), which offers mediation, or the Norwegian Consumer Authority (Forbrukertilsynet).

14. Contact

Terris AS runs Tindelog. Write to [email protected] about these terms, your account or anything else.

Single point of contact (DSA Articles 11 and 12). [email protected] is our single point of contact for people who use Tindelog and for authorities, the European Commission and the European Board for Digital Services. A person reads and answers every message. You can write to us in Norwegian or English.
